Feeling the Eurovision excitement growing on you? You're not alone!
At The Wine Flyer, we are excited to spend the night glued to our televisions supporting our favourite artists. But what if we told you that we've also come up with a contest of our own? Introducing the Eurovision Wine Contest; where you can select a wine from a participating Eurovision country as your winner.
UNITED KINGDOM: Chapel Down Brut NV - Representing the host nation this year is a wine that’s packed with pedigree. The first English wine to be poured on British Airways flights, it’s serving notes of citrus, soft red apple and Asian spices. But will it have enough to get your vote?
FRANCE: Whispering Angel Rosé - It’s premium. It’s glamorous. It is the ideal wine for this contest! Credited with igniting a “Rosé Renaissance” around the world, France’s entry is definitely one to watch for its notes of fresh strawberry, just-baked raspberry tart and a hint of pomegranate.
SPAIN: Ramon Bilbao 'Journey Collection' Rioja Crianza - The Spanish entry this year is a wine that really has the X Factor. Unfortunately this is Eurovision, but we still think this fresh, balanced wine with its intense nose of black and red fruits may well have what it takes to bring home the jamón.
AUSTRALIA: Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz/Cabernet - The Australian entry is a classic first released in 1976, the same year of course that the Netherlands won Eurovision with their song “Ding-a-dong”. An unforgettable tune befitting this unforgettable wine with its rich black fruit notes from cabernet with spicy, peppery shiraz.
NEW ZEALAND: Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc - No Wine Contest would be complete without our personal favourites for the top prize this year - New Zealand! The world-renowned Cloudy Bay is a punchy aromatic wine with a succulent palate and impressive length. Honestly, it shouldn’t really be allowed to enter. It would be like us sending Adele or Paul McCartney.
