Insider Picks: Summer Wines to Sip Right Now
Insider Picks: Summer Wines to Sip Right Now
What our team is sipping this summer...
Word of mouth goes a long way in the world of wine. You only have to look at thriving producers like Bread and Butter or Whispering Angel, both loved for their signature tastes. It often starts with a recommendation. Once you find a bottle you love, you’re always thankful to the person who introduced it to you.
Looking for the next mainstay in your wine cabinet? We asked The Wine Flyer team for their go-to sips for summer – and trust us, they know a thing or two about delicious wine. Whether you like a bold, juicy red or a crisp and refreshing white, sip well with our staff recommendations and collect and spend Avios on every bottle. Here's what our office is currently obsessed with...
Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir - ‘A taste of home’
David Nettleship - Supply Chain Operations Lead
I grew up in New Zealand, so Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir has always felt close to home. It was one of the first wines I remember enjoying with food—fresh ingredients, good conversation, and a bottle that stood out.
It’s a well-balanced Pinot Noir with silky red cherry, wild raspberry, and a subtle layer of earthy spice. There’s enough structure to make it versatile, but it never tries too hard. It pairs especially well with grilled lamb, mushroom pasta or a platter of cheese and charcuterie on a balmy summer’s evening.
Cloudy Bay Pinot Noir is a wine I keep coming back to. Familiar, consistent, and a great reflection of what Marlborough does best.
L'Art Provençal Rosé 2024 - ‘Sunshine in every sip’
Rebecca Crane – Buyer
Our L’Art Provençal Rosé is my standout favourite this summer, although I love a rosé all year round. It's the perfect addition to a sunshine-filled get together and is always so well received. It sings with soft, floral notes and delicate berries. It’s also dry. What else could you want from a rosé?
I love pairing this bottle with a summer salad or grilled meat from the BBQ. It’s an easy-drinking rosé and brings a glimmer of South of France to relaxed evenings in the garden. It’s affordable for a Provençal rosé, too.
No8 Sauvignon Blanc - ‘Classic and light’
Lucy Dixon - Assistant Merchandiser
Lately, I’ve been reaching for No8 Sauvignon Blanc. It’s a crisp light white wine, perfect for summer drinking and you can’t go wrong. It’s a classic New Zealand Sauvignon with a fresh, green flavour profile with hints of gooseberry and tomato plant. Fresh. Fresh. Fresh. I love serving this when I'm hosting in the summer and it also makes an excellent gift.
I enjoy drinking this wine alongside fresh fish and buttery potatoes, but it also goes with beautifully with salads, herby chicken and garlic prawns. It is a quality, no-fuss, delicious bottle that all Sauvignon lovers will enjoy.
Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label Champagne – ‘Elegance in a glass’
Whenever there’s something to celebrate, Veuve Clicquot is my go-to. It sparks memories of holidays, weddings, birthdays and good times with friends and family. This bottle brings it all back, making any event feel special.
Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label is a standout champagne: bright, fresh, and beautifully balanced. Think zesty citrus, green apple and toasted walnut notes to excite the palate. A touch of sweetness rounds it out without ever feeling heavy.
It’s vibrant, expressive, and just a little indulgent—perfect on its own or with a delicious sushi takeaway. A classic done right.
The most cherished wines often come recommended, so we hope you enjoy these sips as much as our awesome team does.
